2 Men Arrested For Burgling Factory & Carting Away N17.5m Electrical Equipment

Police operatives from the Lagos State Command have arrested two young men, Sodiq Mustapha, 19 and Kalifa Ibrahim, 20, for allegedly burgling a factory at night and carting away electrical equipment worth N17.5m. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 18th August, 2024, at Alake area of Ikotun, where the factory  belonging to Esther Oluwaseun is located.

 

Some of the items stolen included armoured cables, production and sealing machines, electrical wiring, wall sockets among others worth the said amount in question.

 

According to the Police, the suspects went to the factory in the early hours of the morning, dug the ground and then removed 70 yards of 16mm of armoured cables connected to the big power generator and removed all the electrical equipment in the factory before they escaped.

 

However, the alleged theft was reported to the Police at Ikotun Division and they moved into action. The operatives first arrested Ibrahim who implicated Mustapha as the buyer of the items.

 

Both were arrested and charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

 

However, they pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, K.A. Ariyo, granted them bail in the sum of N3m with two sureties in like sum  who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 20th September, 2024, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
