2 Men Arrested While Attempting To Exchange Fake Dollars To Swindle Bureau De Change Agent

Police detectives from the Lagos State Command have arrested two suspects,  Daniel Chukwudi, 40 and John Chimera, 39, for attempting to swindle a female Bureau De Change agent by giving her fake $300 Dollars to exchange for its Naira equivalent. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Adeniyi Jones area of Ikeja, Lagos.

 

According to the Police, the suspects went to the area on 17th August, 2024, with the fake Dollars to exchange for the Naira equivalent. Unknown to them,  the agent knew that they were fake and pretended to be arranging to give them the Naira equivalent while the Police at MAN Center Division were immediately contacted. They were arrested and detained at the station for interrogation while the fake Dollars were recovered as exhibits.

 

During the interrogation, they confessed that they knew they were fake Dollars but tried to exchange them for Naira, which eventually backfired and they were arrested.

 

The Police found them culpable and consequently charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

 

However, they pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Evelyn, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. M.A. Adegbaye, granted them bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 24th September, 2024, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions..
