2 Men Docked For Stealing Church’s Cables Worth N.5m

Two men, David Johnson, 29 and David Okwara, 40, have been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly conspiring and stealing church’s cables worth  N·5m, which threw the church into darkness. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 30th December, 2024, at Abundant Life Gospel Church, Agege area of Lagos.

 

According to the Police, the men went to the church at about 3pm, pretended to be electricity workers, carted away the items and escaped.

 

When the church discovered that the cables had been stolen, the matter was reported to the Police, who moved into action. They eventually arrested the suspects and detained them at the station for interrogation over their alleged conduct.

 

After interrogation, the Police found them culpable and charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The charges read:

“That You, David Johnson and David  Okwara on the 30th day of December, 2024, at about 03:00pm at Abundant Life Gospel Church, Agege, in the Ikeja Magisterial district, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”

COUNT II: “That you, David Johnson and David Okwara, on the said date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did some steal cables valued the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira only N500.000′ property of Abundant Life Gospel Church, Agege and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”

 

However, they pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted them bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
