Police operatives from the Oyo State  Command have arrested two men, Temitope Arinola, 45, and Mufutau Kola, 42, for allegedly strangling a woman and cutting her body into pieces for ritual purposes.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 17th May, 2024, at Akinyele- Ojoo Expressway, Ibadan area of the State, where they accosted the victim, Mrs. Eniola Shakirat.
They were arrested and arraigned before the Iyaganku Magistrate Court, Ibadan and charged for conspiracy and murder.
The prosecutor, Inspector Iyabo Oladoyin, told the court that the defendants committed the alleged offences by causing the death of the victim by strangling and dismembering her body.
She stated that the alleged offences contravene Sections 516 and 324 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
However, the Court did not take their plea for want of jurisdiction.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Adebola Adeola, ordered their remand in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s legal advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 30th July, 2024, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
The defendant will be tried for conspiracy and murder if the DPP’s report finds them culpable and recommends their trial before Court for the alleged offences.
