Two men, Abass Akeem, 56 and Abdullahi, 40, have been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly preventing people and disrupting a burial ceremony over unresolved disagreements between them and the dead man.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Omokayo Street, Meiran area of Lagos, where the deceased, Sulaimon Siyanbola Alayabiagba, resided.

According to the residents, the deceased had disagreements with the two men, which had lingered over the years before he eventually died on 27th August, 2023.

While the family members were preparing for his burial, the two men stormed the place smoking substance suspected to be indian hemp, threatening violence and insisted that he will not be buried.

It took the intervention of the Police from Area P Command, who went to the place, arrested the two of them and the deceased was finally buried but by then many had left due to the confusion.

During interrogation, they told the Police that they had unresolved issues with the dead man and they did not want him to be buried.

After rounds of interrogation, the Police found them culpable for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace, which is punishable under Section 411, 44, 55, 56 and 57 of the Criminal Laws of the State.

However, they pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned.

The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. K.A. Ariyo, granted them bail and ordered their remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.

The matter was adjourned till 26th September, 2023, for mention.
