Two men, Mr. Ojerbo Solomon and Mr. Ola Babatunde, have been sentenced to death by hanging for gang raping and killing woman and her daughter in Delta State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that it was the judgment of the High Court sitting in Ibusa, Delta State, which found them guilty for murder, armed robbery, and sexual assault on the deceased and sentenced them accordingly.
The prosecutor, Mr. E.H. Edema, through five witnesses, told the Court that on February 8, 2016, the two convicts, while armed with guns, cutlasses, and knives, broke into the house of the deceased, assaulted them sexually and thereafter, slit their throats.
He said one of the victims, Praise Sunday, was lucky to have survived the attack, while his mother and sister died in the process.
The dastardly act was reported to the Police, who moved into action, eventually arrested the convicts and charged them before the Court for the offence under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The prosecutor said after committing the offence, the convicts escaped to Ewohimi in Edo State with a motorcycle belonging to one of the victims. It was here that they were apprehended by the Police.
The convicts pleaded not guilty which led to their trial.
During the trial, the two convicts gave evidence in their defence and denied the allegations without calling any witness.
The Presiding Judge, Justice M.O.Omovie, after carefully listening to both parties, said the prosecution had proved the case against the two convicts beyond reasonable doubt.
Thus, the Court then sentenced them to death by hanging accordingly.
