2 Night Guards In Police Net For Absconding From Duty When Robbers Struck

Two security guards, Abraham Okwori, 24, and Saheed Alawode, 30, have landed in trouble having absconded from their duty post when robbers struck, carted away properties and escaped in Ibadan, Oyo State. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the guards were arrested and charged before Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for alleged conspiracy and negligence.
The duo, whose residential addresses were not provided, allegedly conspired and abandoned their duty posts at the Kayrace Security Company, Suwebat Plaza, Odo-Ona, Elewe, Ibadan.
The prosecutor, Mr. Philip Amusan, told the Court that the guards committed the offences on 20th December, 2022, between 2.30am to 4.20am by unlawfully abandoning their duty posts, which led to stealing of customers’ property and caused disrepute to the company.
Mr. Amusan said the offences contravened Sections 516 and 344 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000 and the offence attracts several years of imprisonment if they are tried and found guilty before the Court.
However, they pleaded not guilty.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. A. Akande, granted them bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety each in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood.
The matter was adjourned till 8th February, 2023, for hearing while the defendants were ordered to be remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
