2 Night Guards Sent To Prison For Inability To Catch Robbers While On Duty 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the guards were arrested and charged for their inability to prevent the robbers during operation.

The incident happened at Ade Akinsanya Street, Ilupeju area of Lagos, where Lawal and Folorunsho were employed as security guards by the occupants.

They were alleged to have come to work on the day the robbery took place and were sleeping to the extent that the robbery operation took place and they did not know nor took any action to prevent the robbers.

The robbers were said to have robbed the victims and escaped without any form of threat or harassment from the security men employed by the occupants.

In the morning, the supposed security guards were confronted over the robbery incident and they admitted to have been on duty but did not know when the robbers came to rob the occupants.

They were found culpable and handed over to the Police at SCID, Yaba and were alleged to have planned the robbery since they came to work on the fateful day but did not do anything about the robbery operation.

During the interrogation, they reportedly admitted to have gone to sleep but denied their involvement in the planning and execution of the robbery operation.

The Police found them culpable for negligence while on duty as they did not know or give account on how the robbers came into the compound, robbed and escaped while they were there as security guards.

Consequently,  they were charged before the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court for the alleged negligence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

However, they pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned.

The prosecutor, Supol Cousin Adams, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. F.F. George, granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention and the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional centre pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
