2 Women Arrested For Trafficking Lady, 29, For Prostitution In Libya

Police operatives from the Ogun State Command have arrested two women, identified as Mercy and Itoro, for allegedly trafficking a 29-year old lady, identified as Veronica, to Libya for prostitution.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects were arrested by Police operatives from Iperu Remo Division led by CSP Femi Osowe. The team of Policemen effected the arrest of the suspects allegedly belonging to a syndicate, which exploited ladies after promising them jobs and better lives abroad.
They however, met their waterloo after their last victim’s caregiver, Mrs. Grace Anthony, filed a missing person report with the Police on 27th August, 2023, having noticed the absence of Veronica living with her.
“After all efforts to find Veronica proved futile, Grace went on to file a missing person report. The Police went in search of the victim, but she was not found until 31st August, 2023, when it was discovered that Mercy and Itoro had convinced Veronica and trafficked her to Libya for prostitution.”
Thus, they were arrested and detained for interrogation over alleged human trafficking under the Criminal Laws of the State, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
This was confirmed by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Odutola Omolola, who said that the suspects were in Police custody undergoing interrogation over their alleged conduct.
She said, “The Commissioner of Police has been briefed. He described the act as barbaric and inhumane and has ordered that the two women be charged immediately”.
The suspects will be charged before the Court for the alleged offence but that will be after the conclusion of investigations by the Police.
