Controversy is now trailing the arrest and prosecution of two workers of Aso Rock Hotel and Suites, Maria Godwin, 27 and Benjamin Joseph, 27, by the Police from Ikotun Division over the alleged stealing and eating of 257 cat fishes at the hotel in Lagos State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects, Maria and Joseph, were arrested by the Police at the hotel located at Abaranje in Ikotun area of Lagos, for prosecution after one cat fish got missing, which the management alleged they may have eaten.

The management of the hotel calculated and alleged that since 2021 to 2022, the number of cat fishes, which had got missing were worth over N926,000 and the suspects were asked to pay the money to the hotel through their complainant, Arowole Blessing.

However, the suspects denied getting involved with such number of cat fishes and refused to pay the money they were asked to pay. At that point, the management of the hotel then ordered the helpless Police to prosecute the suspects.

They were subsequently charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for conspiracy and stealing.

When they were arraigned, they pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they have pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate,  A.K. Dosumu, granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

They were remanded in the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 25th May, 2022, for mention.
