2021 NYG: Lagos Conducts Screening To Present Eligible “In School” Athletes – Kolawole Moses
The Director, Sports Development, Lagos State Sports Commission, Kolawole Moses, has said that the screening exercise for athletes to represent Lagos State at the forthcoming 6th National Youth Games (NYG) in Ilorin, Kwara State, was a carefully thought out and well-organised process.
Kolawole made this statement at the conclusion of a 2-day screening exercise for school-based athletes, held at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, on Friday.
A statement signed by Adewunmi Agunloye, Public Relations Specialist, Lagos State Sports Commission says as the 6th edition of the NUG is fast approaching, Lagos, the sports hub, is working round the clock to ensure that it presents only eligible “In-School” Athletes, who fall within the age range stipulated by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, to vie for the laurels.
“The Screening exercise is very paramount because the Commission doesn’t want to be disgraced by the time they get to llorin for the sports fiesta.
“We have done our due diligence and I believe no Team Lagos athlete will be screened out during the Games”
“I want to categorically tell you that the chances of Team Lagos are very bright because, we have been preparing for the Games before this time”, further stated that the Ministry of Education and all the six Education Districts in the State were involved in the process.
“Team Lagos placed 2nd on the Medals Table in the Year 2019, this time around, we want to top the Medals Table by the special grace of God,” Kolawole said.
According to Agunloye, the two-day screening exercise was conducted in different 33 Sports: Athletics, Deaf Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Canoeing, Chess, Dart, Fives, Golf, Judo, Karate, Scrabble, Shooting, Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tae, Tennis, Ayo, Kokowa, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Wushu Kung- Fu, Para Athlethics, Para Table Tennis, Handball, Volleyball, Female Football, Hockey and Rugby.
