The 2023 general elections present another opportunity for Ndi Anambra Central to once again decide their political future. For the zone which between 2016 and 2018 had no representation in the Senate due to some legal scrimmage, next year’s election presents an opportunity for the Senatorial District to continue to cover lost grounds, maintain stability and encourage the unparalleled momentum of the incumbent Senator’s representation.

For what it’s worth, Senator Uche Ekwunife, who was elected to represent the zone in 2019, has for the past two and half years in office shown great strides in legislative representation. The grassroots-friendly lawmaker has in line with her primary responsibilities of making laws for peace, order and good governance in the country sponsored numerous bills and motions that have positively affected the lives of constituents, including her much applauded projects and interventions in roads, housing, health, education, youth and women empowerment across the Senatorial District.

The Federal lawmaker has moved various impactful motions including, a motion of urgent National importance seeking to address the devastating storm in Obosi, Nkpor and Oraukwu communities of Anambra Central; Motion on the need to complete the abandoned Greater Awka Water Scheme; Motion on the Fire Outbreaks At Motor Spare Parts Obosi and Loretto Special Science School Adazi-Nnukwu; Motion on the need to immortalize the Late Igwe Alex Nwokedi of Achalla in Awka North.

Others are, Motion on the need to prioritize Small and Medium Enterprises in the Federal Government’s Covid-19 Interventions; Motion on Digitization/Automation of Collection & Remittance on Withholding Tax on Bank Deposits; Motion on the Present Status of 5th Generation (5G) Network in Nigeria; Motion on the Proliferation of Fake Medical Reports from Public Hospitals in Nigeria amongst others.

The Senator has equally sponsored over 30 crucial bills, notable amongst which include, Local Government Autonomy Bill, Public Procurement Amendment Bill, Federal College of Automobile Engineering Obosi Establishment Bill, Federal College of Commerce And Technical Skills Abagana Establishment Bill, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (Amendment) bill, Federal University of Science,Technology and Innovation Agulu Establishment Bill.

Others are, Penal Code Act (Amendment) Bill, Electoral Act Amendment Bill, Ecological Fund Office (Amendment) Bill, Energy Commission of Nigeria (Amendment) Bill, National Emergency Maintenance Agency (Amendment) Bill, Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute Bill amongst others.

On the 9th of October 2019, Ekwunife made a courageous call for a representative from the South East region to be appointed on the board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), this led the Federal Government to appoint Mr Uche Nwude as a Non-executive commissioner representing the South East on the Board of the commission – a move that could best be described as an example of her numerous efforts towards projecting the interest of the region.

The Senator is obviously not resting on her laurels. The empowerment-driven lawmaker is by all indications deeply commitment to raising the standards of representation through facilitation of more life-changing projects and programmes.

As we go into a new election season, it is clear that Distinguished Senator Uche Ekwunife has performed beyond expectations and should be supported to continue the good work as the reward for good work is more work.

Unequivocally, ln Ekwunife Anambra Central and indeed Anambra State Nwelu Ifekaolaedo – something worth more than gold!
