Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Lagos State led by the amiable President, Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene, has reiterated and stated why the Igbo will support the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the 2023 Elections.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Chief Aguene stated this at the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos Secretariat in Surulere during the stakeholders meeting comprising the Igbo sons and daughters including members of the Supreme Council of Ezendigbo led by Eze Lawrence Nnamdi Eze.
Aguene explained that since Ohanaeze in Lagos State is in support of the second tenure bid of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu because he has touched the lives of many Igbo people in the State, Igbo will also support the Presidential bid of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Aguene explained that Ohanaeze’s decision was based on the need for Ndigbo in Lagos to benefit from the dividends of democracy in the state and to protect their investment in Lagos State.
He said: “There is a popular Igbo adage which says that ‘Ebe onye bi ka o na-awachi’, literarily meaning that where one resides is the place he will protect in order to live in peace.
He explained that a huge number of the Igbo live and enjoy Lagos more than any other tribe and have all agreed that they will vote for and follow Babajide Sanwo-Olu and equally support the APC at the center.
“For me and for the Igbo people in Lagos, our candidate is Babajide Sanwo-Olu. And once you have the Governor of the state, who you cherish so much, you must also try to make sure that the same party emerges in Abuja, so that you can get whatever you want for your people in democracy, that is what I am doing as President.”
“We will support whoever is the candidate of Sanwo-Olu. The decision was made because it matters to our lives, destiny, and everything we are doing. Lagos State is like the second home of Ndigbo.”
“This is where we have our highest investments and the highest population of Igbo in the world. If we have a Governor that is caring for us, and if the other one (Tinubu) in Abuja is with us, I think we will have life easier and better.”
Aguene further explained that Ndigbo have benefitted greatly from the Lagos State Government and have also made significant investments in the state. As a result, it would be foolish not to support the Lagos State Government, particularly Governor Sanwo-Olu and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who have accommodated the Igbo over the years.
He recalled some of the assistance the Igbo had benefitted from the ruling party through Governor Sanwo-Olu, which included relief materials for the less privileged among the Igbo, paid hospital bills, assistance to the Igbo in times of needs and always listening to the Igbo people when there is any complaints.
Chief Aguene maintained that the Igbo are wise people and there is every need to continue to maintain the cordial relationship, which exists between Ndigbo and the owners of the land. He said that it was what necessitated the creation of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Political Forum led by Chief Chris Ekwilo and other political actors to galvanize and mobilize Ndigbo across the 57 Local Council areas in Lagos to vote for Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu under the APC.
