Police operatives from the Lagos State Command have arrested three Civil Defence Officers in connection with the robbery incident, which took place at LASTMA Headquarters and the agency allegedly lost two seized trucks and spare parts worth about N6.8m.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects,  Adeyemi Ayodeji,  30, Oluwasegun Odumade, 30 and Salisu Abdullahi, 27 were arrested in connection with the theft of the items for their inability to apprehend the thieves while acting as security guards.
The incident happened at LASTMA Headquarters, located at Oshodi area of Lagos, where the suspects were engaged for security purposes.
.
Some of the items stolen included two  Mack trucks with code numbers DRTGSA-039, Engine, Radiator, kick starter, clutch cable among others worth the said money belonging to LASTMA.
It was not certain if it was the suspects that stole the items or the LASTMA officers as the suspects alleged that some of the LASTMA officers are criminals too and may have stolen the items.
However, the LASTMA High Command found them culpable as security guards put in place to prevent criminals at the yard and they failed.
Consequently, they were handed over to the Police at Mofasejo station for interrogation and were found culpable for not catching the thieves that stole the items.
They were consequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for conspiracy and stealing.
They pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Evelyn Ehieniua, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. M.A. Adegbaye, granted them bail in the sum of N200, 000 each with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
They were remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 16th October, 2023, for mention.
