Four men, Nafi’u Isah, Haruna Ya’u, Nadabo Mohammed and Sa’adu Musa,  have been sentenced to 40 years and six months imprisonment each making it the total of 162 years for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, attempted murder and causing grievous harm by the Kano High Court.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the presiding judge, Justice Usman Na’abba, held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt and found them guilty before the Court.
Justice Na’abba therefore, sentenced the convicts to six months’ imprisonment each for conspiracy and 20 years’ imprisonment each for armed robbery. He also sentenced the convicts to 10 years’ imprisonment each for attempted murder and five years’ imprisonment each for causing grievous harm on the complainant.
The judge ordered the convicts to pay the complainant the sum of N650,000, which they collected from him or spend an additional five years each in prison for the offence.
However,  the judge ordered that the sentences would run concurrently.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr. Lamido Abba-Sorondinki, had earlier told the court that the convicts committed the offence on 1st May, 2022, at Kunkurawa Village in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, Kano.
He said that on the same date at about 1:00 am, the convicts criminally conspired while armed with guns, sticks, cutlasses and broke into the house of one Haruna Shehu situated at Kunkurawa Village, Kano.
“The defendants beat the complainant and members of his family, causing grievous injury to his son, Ado Haruna Shehu. The convicts also robbed Shehu and members of his family of the sum of N650,000,” he said.
The prosecution presented six witnesses and exhibits to prove their case against the convicts.
The convicts however, denied committing the offence hence the trial.
The prosecutor, Abba-Sorondinki, said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 97, 298(c), 230(a) and 349 of the Penal Code Laws of Kano State, 1991.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Sani Idris, presented the convicts to testify in their own defence.
However, the Court found them guilty and sentenced them accordingly.
