The last may not have been heard following the buying and selling of a 3-year old boy allegedly stolen from his mother as the Police detectives from State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, Lagos, have arrested four women believed to be members of a child theft syndicate.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the women included Fidelia Okoro, 45, Perpetua Anyanwu, 53, Anna Njoku, 50 and Agbaku Mary Mbah, 42.

According to Police sources, their arrest followed the revelation by one Victoria Chizaram, who reportedly bought the same boy from them at Badiru Street, Maza Maza area of Lagos and kept him in her home at Rev. Ajani Street, Iliyasu, Ilewe Bus Stop, Egbe and forged adoption papers of the MercyLand Motherless babies home.

The whole scam got exposed when Victoria Chizaram was arrested and detained for interrogation. She reportedly revealed and implicated the four suspects and their alleged involvement in the act.

During interrogation, she had claimed that she adopted the child from the motherless home which turned out to be false.
She was arrested and transferred to the SCID, Yaba, for further investigation and it was during the investigation she reportedly revealed that Victoria was among the members of the human trafficking syndicate who are now at large.

Both Victoria and the other women have been charged before the Ebute Metta Magistrates Court for conspiracy, child theft and forgery.
They pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Mr. Olatunde Kehinde, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Ekundayo, granted each of them bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.
They were remanded in custody pending when they will perfect their bail conditions and face trial for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment if they are tried and found guilty.
