5 Suspected Kidnappers Docked Over Murder Of Victim After Collecting N2m Ransom

Police operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, Lagos State, have arrested five suspected notorious kidnappers over the alleged killing of a victim,  Emmanuel Ezeike, after obtaining N2m as ransom. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects, Lateef Kazeem, Eric Adetola, Sanusi Momoh, Samuel Anuoluwapo, and Adamson Olayinka, were arrested for their alleged criminal conduct.
They were subsequently charged before the Yaba Magistrates Court on nine counts bothering on conspiracy, armed robbery, murder, and kidnapping under the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
The prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, stated that the defendants committed the offences in January and February 2023 in the Ojo and Abule Ado areas of the state by conspiring with others to kidnap, kill, and defraud the victim, Emmanuel Ezeike, of N2m.
Apart from that, Supol Nurudeen also stated that the defendants, while armed with a gun, stole one iPhone belonging to one Joel Ekeh, valued at N150, 000 in the Egan area of the state.
The prosecutor further stated that the offences contravened and are punishable under Sections 287, 299, 297(B), 411, and 415 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.
The Court however, did not take the defendants’ pleas following a motion moved by the prosecutor asking the Court to refer the matter to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P. E. Nwaka, granted the request and ordered that the defendants be remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre in Ikoyi pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice.
The matter was adjourned till 5th May, 2023, for mention for the report of DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to High Court or not over jurisdiction.
