64 Teams Battle For U-15 Akpororo Tourney In Lagos

 Sixty four teams are expected to take part in the third edition of U-15 Akpororo Football Competition which kicks off on 4 April at the four sports centers in Lagos.

 The four designated centres are Olympic Stadium, Ijesha, Ilogbo Primary School, Ajagbandi, Pipeline Grass pitch, Ajemuwo, Badagary and Maracana Stadium, Ajegunle.

The Chairman Organising Committee, Sherif Tijani has revealed that 40 teams have registered so far in the competition sponsored by a sports philanthropist and comedian, Mr Jephthah Bowoto, popularly known as Akpororo.

Tijani in a chat with journalists in Lagos said the tourney was put together by the sponsor to celebrate his twins’ baby birthday, which was given birth while playing in the maiden edition.

“ It is an annual competition because the sponsor want to sponsor it to celebrate his twins he had two years ago. Aside that, we are using the tournament to allow some teams that want to play Lagos State Challenge Cup as a way of preparing for the future challenges. It is going to be a tough competition considering the teams that have registered with us, “he said.

Tijani urged interested clubs to come for their registration forms saying that there is no room for late registration.

He revealed that the winner would go home with the sum of N200, 000 with a giant trophy while second and third position will receive N150,000 and N100,000 respectively.
