His friends and fans call him the Bomber, because of his punching ruthlessness in the ring.
Aircraft Man Babatunde Oluwasegun Oyesiji has dominated the light welterweight division in the amateur ranks in Lagos State.
Since adopting boxing as a career of interest from the tender age of 15 years, Babatunde has had thirty fights, winning all but two and knocking out thirteen of his victims.
Now, the 24-year-old youngster who is from a family of boxers says he is tired of the amateur ranks and ready to take the plunge into the professional category.
According to him “I have been boxing as an amateur since I was 15 years.
“I have participated in the Lagos State Boxing Hall of Fame championship, Lagos State Club Championship and the National Sports Festival.
“I think I have done enough as an amateur, and now I am ready to join the pro ranks”.
Babatunde was full of praise for the Nigeria Air Force for the support the service has rendered to his boxing career.
He said “Whatever, I have achieved today as a boxer is due to the support from the Nigeria Air Force.
He explained “Though I was recruited by the NAF as a non-trade personnel, I was later recognised as a boxer and given all the support I needed”
“They have always given me plenty of time to train.
“I would like to thank the Deputy Director of Sports, Group Captain O. E. Abanum and my coach Warrant Officer Okeson Ugboh for their support to my career”.
The boxer said he decided to turn pro so as to bring glory to the country and place the Nigeria Air Force on the World map.
In his words “I have decided to turn pro so as to bring greater glory to my beloved country and to place Nigeria Air Force on the World map for supporting me this far”.
“By the time, I become a World champion, the NAF would be placed on the World map”.
For a young man who grew up in a tough neighbourhood in Bariga, a Lagos suburb, Babatunde has the guts to achieve his dreams.
What is required of him, however is to remain focused and pursue his dream with vigour
Three of his four siblings are all in the noble art of self defence.
His sister Adeola Oyesiji is currently the National light flyweight champion.
And his parents are also full of support to his ambition.
So Babatunde has no reason not to conquer the world and fulfil his dream.
