The immediate past head coach of Lagos based premier club, Mountain of Fire, MFM, Olamilekan Gabriel has reacted to the recent sack of the coaching crew led by humbled self

Gabriel and his assistants were given marching order by MFM General Overseer, Dr D.K olukoya following the poor run of the team in the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League.

In an exclusive chat with our correspondent in Ikorodu, Gabriel said sacking him and his assistant is not the solution to the problems of MFM but noted that the Lagos premier club need to be overhauled if they want to come out of relegation.

Gabriel said he was shocked when some fans and football stakeholders blamed the coaching crew for the team’s failure in the league saying that the club management had failed to recruit experienced and quality players before the commencement of the new season.

“Let me say this for those who care to listen that I am not the problem of MFM. The problems of MFM boil down to the management’s failure to recruit good players to the team. As a coach, I gave the management advice on what to do but to my surprised nothing has been done. When I was with MFM, I tried to do my best to win some matches unfortunately, we found ourselves on the bottom of the table. I wish the new management and coaching crew best of luck in their campaigns,” he said.

Gabriel however thanked Dr Olukoya for giving him the opportunity to handle the club for years as assistant and head coach saying that his period in MFM helped his coaching career and abilities.

Despite the fact he was sacked for club poor run in the league, Gabriel said he would continue to support MFM in prayers and urged the new management to do everything within their capacities to rescue the club from relegation.

Meanwhile MFM would be a guest to Lobi Stars this weekend in the Nigerian league. MFM played goalless draw with the Akwa United their last home match. The Lagos based club are in bottom of the league.MFM need to pick a point in their next match. A draw or defeat to them would not be accepted by Dr Olukoya and new management who are worried about the position of the team on the table.
