Joseph Ogbuka Goes DEEP

Posted on May 25, 2017
With all the modern distractions here and there, how can poems compete? Candy Crush, History Channel, Instagram, Series… poetry has no chance. Or so we may think.
Probably poems are not treated the way they should be in these modern day.
There is a lot to the art form, but it is not just being upgraded. It is not being packaged in a way to appeal to the fast paced city dwellers we are all becoming. Joseph Ogbuka, a telecoms exec, thinks so.
Poems are literary works of art. They are writings that partakes in the nature of both speech and song that is nearly always rhythmical, usually metaphorical, and often exhibits such formal elements as meter, rhyme and stanzaic structure, as boring as all that might sound, it takes on a new meaning when enveloped around other elements.
Ogbuka in his new book, DEEP, takes poem writing and appreciation to another level.
He combines personal experiences mixing it with media like pictures to bring to life a beautiful art form that is slowly forgotten.
But he does not stop there. He is taking poems to the stage.
The book launch of DEEP will include cocktails, book signings and a stage performance.
The event will take place at Ultima Studios, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
The book launch would also be of great interest to those that appreciate traditional poems as it is a book of inspirational poems.
“The event promises to be interesting as it comprises of music, dance, drama and spoken words which will make the event lively and, thereby leaving it a day to remember,” said Ogbuka.
The author added, “The book is dear to me. In fact it is a part of me. I used the medium of poetry to share various experiences I have had in life. I know people will appreciate the delivery.”
