As most developed countries in the world are going ‘Green’ on ‘Climate Change’, the Rotary Club of Gbagada District 9110, Nigeria on Wednesday partnered with Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) to train sixty (60) youths on waste collection and wealth creation.

The group led by its President-elect, Rotn. Alozie R. Nsirimobi, during a partnership meeting with the Council Chairman, Hon David Olusegun Odunmbaku, in his office at the council secretariat clarified that the skill acquisition program is lifetime empowerment for the youths as they will make money as well doing all sorts of craft with the waste collected.

The waste collection program is an initiative of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).

60 youths across six political wards in Ojodu LCDA will make the list for the 3-day skill acquisition on waste collection and how to process it to turn wealth. The youths are expected to acquire knowledge of the theoretical and practical aspects of the ‘Go Green’ initiative of Odunmbaku’s administration.

Nsirimobi explained further that the youths will acquire knowledge on how to convert trashed tires to chairs and kitchen waste products to gas.

“Every year we pick some projects to do, one of our projects for this year is the waste collection and at the same time to use it to empower our youth,” Nsirimobi noted.

In his remark, Him Odunmbaku thanked the Rotarians for the visit and donation of medical equipment to Ogba Oluwole Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) Child and Maternal care unit.
“I thank you for coming, we have benefited from your Child and Maternal care medical equipment donation,” he said.

He added: “This is a laudable project which any reasonable government will key into, plastic is a menace to our community. We have to keep informing our people about the hazard of plastic”.

On the skill acquisition, he said: “We’ll reach out to our youths within the community interested in this craft and also earn a living”.

Rotarians present at the meeting were, Yemi Lawal, service projects chairman; Bunmi Oguntade, incoming President; Ishola Ogunsola, past president; Akinwale Odutola, past president; Olanrewaju O’nezer, public image; Adeniyi Adekunle, membership chairman; Alex Alonge and the council’s Head of Department Environmental Services, Sanitarian Sangolana
