Man, 20, Lands In Police Net Over Defilement Of Girl, 9

A 20-year old man, Aminu Haruna, has been arrested over an alleged sex romp with a  9-year old girl in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Baale Street, Tolu area of Olodi Apapa, Lagos, where they reside.

The suspect, Haruna, reportedly lured the girl in the afternoon when her parents had gone to work, into an apartment and engaged her in sex. 

While he was still in the act,  one of their neighbours, who knew what was going on, raised an alarm which attracted other neighbours and the girl later informed her parents about what happened. 
The matter was reported to the Police in the area and the suspect was arrested. He was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for interrogation over the dastardly act. 

During interrogation, the suspect claimed that he did not force her into the act and that it was an agreement between both of them. 
The Police found him culpable because the girl is still a minor and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.  

The alleged offence attracts several years of imprisonment if he is convicted by the Court. 

However, when he was arraigned, the Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice since the victim is a minor. 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, ordered his remand in the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.

The matter was adjourned till 1st July, 2022, for the report of the DPP to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
