Lagos Lawmaker Hosts SWAN Caretaker Exco, Preaches Professionalism In Sports Journalism

Chairman House Committee On Sports, Lagos State House of Assembly. Hon Moshood Oshun played host to the members of the Caretaker Executive Committee of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Lagos State chapter Caretaker.
Hon. Oshun received the executive in his office in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria with warm arms.

EXPRESS reports that the legislator representing Lagos Mainland Constituency I commended members of the Caretaker Committee for their resilience, dedication and zeal towards ensuring the right standard is imbibed among sports journalists in Lagos State. He also commended their professionalism and active ethical values which they believe will bring about a great positive improvement to sports journalism in Lagos.
The lawmaker harped on absolute integrity check, and professionalism upgrading, via introducing properly coordinated pieces of training, seminars and conferences for members to heighten the standard of sports journalism practice and their personality integrity..
He further noted that there is a need for the journalists to also focus their reports on other sports with passion and not only football.

“As you cannot call yourself a sports journalist if the only sports you know is football. Sports which are termed to be premium like Polo and Golf etc should also be reported with passion and should not be only when they are hosting special events,” Hon. Oshun said.
He also emphasised restructuring which should begin from the sports journalist’s personality as this will attract the government and corporate institutions to extend unlimited support.

He commended the administration of His Excellency Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment and outstanding performance towards sports development in Lagos State, adding that Lagos will continue to be the Home of Sports and for sports athletes.
He congratulated the Caretaker Committee once again and implore them to be more focused and committed to the upliftment and progress of sports growth in Lagos State.
