The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Lagos State Police Command, CP Sylvester Alabi, has restated his determination to always collaborate with journalists covering the crime beat in their effort to promote a crime free society.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Police boss gave the assurance on Friday while interacting with the newly elected officers and members of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) at Mike Okiro Press Centre, Ikeja Lagos.
While congratulating the new Executive Committee headed by Mr. Lekan Onabulo, the Police Commissioner noted that experience had shown that enforcement of the law by the Police and dissemination of relevant crime related information would not be possible without journalists.
He emphasised that any society that undermines the strategic position of journalists in information dissemination would be doing so at its own risk.
Restating his earlier pledge about five months ago when he assumed office as Lagos Police Commissioner, Alabi assured Crime Reporters that his administration would always carry them along as strategic partners in law enforcement and crime fighting.
He expressed worries over false information especially as seen online and enjoined Journalists to always verify before reporting anything that could pose challenges in the State.
Speaking on the recent ban on commercial motorcycles in Lagos by the State Government, the Police boss said that as law enforcement agents, his Command has been complying with the directives of the Government.
He enjoined the journalists to cooperate fully with the Police in order to ensure the protection of lives and properties in Lagos State.
