Ambode To Host Muslims In 20 Centres During Ed-el-Fitri

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, says he will host Muslims in the state during the Eid-el-fitri to demonstrate his administration’s policy of identifying with Lagos citizens during religious activities.

A statement on Monday explained that the governor and his wife, Bolanle, would host Muslims in the state for the festival in 20 centres in the 20 local government areas of the state.

The statement urged Muslims in Lagos, after observing their Eid-il-fitr prayers, to go to the centres close to them from 11am to 2pm.

It explained that it had been the tradition for the governor and his family to host Muslims at the State House, Ikeja, during Ramadan, adding that Ambode decided to decentralised  the hosting to the grass roots to cover the 20 councils and enable as many Lagosian Muslims as possible to be part of the celebration.

The statement read in part, “Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, while extending special greetings to fasting Muslims, remarks that occasions like this, give his administration the opportunity to reach out and venerate with Muslims, Christians and other faith-based devotees during their respective special and holy days.

“He said the state’s participation during religious festivals is another way of projecting hospitality, concord and love that Lagosians are noted for. He enjoins all Lagosians to keep on praying for the state and continue to celebrate one another’s differences so as to strengthen their cherished unity.”

Ambode restated his commitment to inclusive governance, saying all religious groups, irrespective of affiliations, denominations and interests, would be involved in the state affairs.
