Rivers’ Progressives Young Women’s Forum Inaugurated

The Rivers State chapter of Progressives Young Women’s Forum under the leadership of Ms Precious Alechi Iyeuwa and Lydia Jaja has been inaugurated.
The inauguration ceremony, which took place at the Rivers APC State Secretariat complex in Port Harcourt, was performed by the State Women Leader of APC, Mrs. Beatrice Dappa Amobi.

In her address, Mrs. Amobi Dappa admonished young women in politics to stop gossiping and the attitude of running down others. She equally urged women to use their God given opportunity in politics to make impact in society.

Delivering her address, wife of former Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi, ably represented by a former Women Affairs Commissioner in Rivers State, Mrs. Joeba West, congratulated the Progressives Young Women’s Forum for their successful inauguration.
Dame Amaechi charged young women to be focused, determined and have confidence in themselves when aspiring to any heights in leadership.

Also speaking, former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Hon Mrs. Aleruchi Cookey-Gam, emphasised the role of young people, especially young women in future growths and development of society.

Mrs. Cookey-Gam urged women to be hard working, submit to mentorship and be committed, as that is the only panacea to earn leadership positions.
Hon. Mrs. Nancy Stephens, Rivers APC Welfare Secretary, who was represented by Mr. Darlington Nwauju, the Rivers APC spokesperson, delivered the lecture on the theme; “Factors Affecting Role of Young Women in Political Participation” process.

In her welcome address, Rivers Representatives and State Coordinator of the Progressives Young Women’s Forum, Ms Precious Alechi Iyeuwa and Lydia Jaja thanked invited leaders, all guests for their support for the group and their presence.
She particularly appreciated wife of the former Minister of Transportation, Dame Judith Amaechi and Dame Maureen Tamuno, the Nigerian Ambassador to Jamaica, for their encouragement to the group.
Ms Precious highlighted the objectives of the Progressives Young Women’s Forum to include effective mobilization of young women to participate in electioneering process.

Other women stakeholders at the event who also gave goodwill messages included wife of Rivers APC Gubernatorial candidate, Her Excellency, Dr Mrs. Silvia Cole, wife of Honourable Minister of Environment, Mrs. Udi Udom, among others.
State Executive members and coordinators of the Progressives Young Women’s Forum from across the 23 Local Government areas of Rivers State were inaugurated.
