Ofumelu @ 45: Lawmaker Shuns Birthday Celebrations Over Concern For Ayamelum Flood Victims

Posted on October 18, 2022

The lawmaker representing Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency, Hon. Vincent Ekenedilichukwu Ofumelu, has called on his supporters, constituents, friends and well-wishers who intended to celebrate him today, 18th October, 2022, being his birthday, to use the opportunity to pray and show support to flood victims in communities across Ayamelum Local Government Area, his immediate constituency.

The lawmaker, who made the statement through his Director on Strategic Communication, Uloka Chukwubuikem, stated that every 18th October has always been a moment of sober reflection, thanksgiving to the Almighty God, and rededication of self to the service of God and humanity, among other fanfare. But this year’s celebration will be marked solemnly to share in the plight and loss of flood victims in Ayamelum, who have since lost lives and properties.

The statement according to Uloka read:

“Ofumelu appreciates all friends and associates, colleagues, family and well-wishers, who have in no little way or means celebrated his birthday and planned to present him with gifts, but stated that the year’s celebration would rather be solemn to pay respect, share in the plight, and as a mark of honour to flood victims in Ayamelum and other parts of Anambra State and Nigeria facing the excruciating pains of flooding”.

He urged the public and constituents to use the opportunity of his birthday to show concern for flood victims, visit IDPs in Ayamelum, share in the pains and griefs of displaced persons, and continue to pray for this suffering to end soon.

“Ofumelu is grateful to God Almighty for his grace, blessings, the gift of good health and the ability to serve humanity through his political position. He has continued to be a true follower of Christ and holds dear his Christian values as he turns 45. He prayed for God’s sufficient guidance upon him as he embarks on another new age journey and called on all his friends and supporters to remember mostly his people who are facing flood challenges and devastation.”

“This too shall pass, as we hope and pray to God Almighty for divine assistance and direction.

God bless Oyi/Ayamelum!
God bless Anambra State!!
God bless Nigeria!!!” the statement concluded.
