The Police intelligence team from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, Lagos, has arrested two school security guards, who allegedly conspired and gang raped a 16-year old female student inside the school premises.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Tonia International School, located at Coker area of Lagos, where the suspects, Olabamiji Quudus and Christian Jonah, were employed as security guards.
The Police alleged that the suspects lured the student and engaged her in the act before the information leaked and she confessed what happened to her parents.
The matter was reported to the Police in the area and the security guards were arrested. They were subsequently transferred to the SCID for further investigation over their alleged conduct.
During interrogation, the security guards were said to have claimed to have done so with the consent of the student but the victim denied and told the Police that she was lured into the act without her consent.
The Police found them culpable and later charged them before the Yaba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment if they are found guilty as charged before the Court.
When they were arraigned, the Court did not take their plea after the prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, asked the Court to give a date and refer the matter to the DPP for advice since the student is still a minor.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P.E. Nwaka, ordered their remand in correctional center pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice without an option of bail and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
