Delta 2022 NSF: Lagos Receives Torch Of Unity

As the ‘Delta 2022’ National Sports Festival draws closer, the Lagos State Government on Sunday received the “Torch of Unity”, signaling the state readiness to compete at the fiesta holding in Asaba later this month.

The ‘Torch of Unity’ which continue its journey to the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory was received on behalf of the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu by the Honourable Commissioner of Youth and Social Development, Olusegun Dawodu, at the Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.

The Commissioner was supported at the ceremony by Executive Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Sola Aiyepeku; the Director General, Oluwatoyin Gafaar and other management staff of the Commission as well as athletes who will be representing the state at the 2022 NSF.

Speaking after receiving the ‘Torch of Unity’ on behalf of the Governor, Dawodu reaffirmed the
commitment of the present administration to develop sports at the grassroots while assuring that the state will compete favourably at the forthcoming games.

The commissioner affirmed that Governor Sanwo-Olu has, and will continue to prioritize welfare, while assuring that the state’s delegation will get adequate support from the Lagos State Government toward ensuring improved performance from the last edition of the Sports Festival.

In his own remarks, Executive Chairman, Sola Aiyepeku said the ‘Torch of Unity’ which symbolizes the importance of the sports fiesta, stating that the athletes are already in competition mood and ready to perform when the games commence.

Aiyepeku stated that the state has what it takes to win the biennial games while commending Governor Sanwo-Olu for enabling the LSSC to provide the athletes with necessary support and motivation to excel in their chosen careers.

Speaking on behalf of the athletes, Team Captains, Ahmed Koleosho and Adijat Olarinoye commended the the management of Lagos State Sports Commission, promising that the athletes will repay the Lagos State Government’s efforts by winning more medals compared to the ‘Edo 2020’ Games where Lagos won 126 medals; 32 gold, 40 silver and 54 bronze.

The ‘Torch of Unity’ was presented by the delegation and representatives of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, led by South West Zonal Coordinator, Emmanuel Okere who used the occasion to urge athletes to embrace unity.
