‘Golden Master’ Olatunde Oduwole Promises More Scrabble Gold For Team Lagos
Team Lagos on Saturday won a gold medal in the Scrabble event at the ongoing 21st National Sports Festival tagged Delta 2022.
The gold medal was won by Olatunde Oduwole in the Masters Singles event held inside the multi purpose hall of Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.
Coach of Lagos State Scrabble and Monopoly Association, Mr Akinfemisoye Ayomiposi described Oduwole’s gold medal as “most prestigious” in the competition, adding that he knew that his player would be a star to watch out for in the festival even before the start of the championship.
Oduwole, the son of the soil from Iduganran area of Lagos Island, was confidence coming to the Delta 2022 having settled for fourth position in the last Sports Festival in Edo State.
“The aura was not there for me at the Edo 2021, but with a renewed determination and tenacity, I remained focus that the Delta 2022 would be a different ball game,” the champion told P.M. EXPRESS amidst cheers by the spectators after the game.
He said the dynamism of scrabble game demands from any player to take his game serious right from the preparation level “and this was what I did, and I promised myself that I would not let Lagos down this time around,” he said.
Oduwole, who has been part of Nigerian team to international championships and had contributed his quota to ensure that Nigeria remains the number one ranked nation in the world, revealed that Team Lagos should be expecting more medals as the Scrabble event progresses in the festival.
“I will be competing in the doubles event with Wale Fashina, so also in the team event. I guarantee to win gold medals in these events,” Oduwole said.
Coach Ayomiposi said his scrabble team, comprise 9 males and 3 female players would compete in 12 events at the Delta 2022 National Sports Festival.
