A clergyman, Pastor Innocent Nwaezeapu, had a nasty experience in Lagos State after he was beaten mercilessly during an encounter with his neighbour, Kenneth Udoh, who accused him of being fake and deceiving people.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Omiyala Street, Ejigbo area of Lagos, where they reside.
The 43-year old man, Udoh, has been arrested and detained for assaulting Pastor Nwaezeapu.
The suspect was said to have had an undisclosed issue with the Pastor, which the Police did not disclose and in the process of the encounter, Udoh grabbed Pastor Nwaezeapu, beat him up and smashed his phone on the ground.
The matter was reported to the Police at Area D Command, Mushin, Lagos and Udoh was arrested and detained at the Command for interrogation over his conduct.
During interrogation, Udoh justified the beating and informed the Police that the victim was a fake Pastor, who deserved the treatment. The Police asked him to provide evidence to show that he was a fake Pastor but he was unable to do so, while only stating that two of them knew what transpired between them.
Having found him culpable, the Police charged him before the Isolo Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Oje Uagbale, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. I.O. Akokhia, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
He was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 26th January, 2023, for mention.
