The Police intelligence team from Isheri Oshun Division of the Lagos State Command led by SP Oluwole Oyewole, have tracked and arrested a 22-year old man, Otaga Edema, who allegedly went to church, stole a lady’s phone while other worshippers were praying and escaped.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Olive Mountain Church in Ologun area of Ijegun, Lagos, where the church is located.
The owner of the phone, Ladi Audu, was said to have gone to the Church for prayers and while she was praying, she did not suspect Edema, who then targeted, stole her phone and escaped.
When she got through with her prayers in the church, she discovered that her phone was missing and even the security at the church did not notice or catch the suspect.
The matter was reported to the Police, who moved into action, eventually arrested Edema and detained him at the station for interrogation over the missing phone.
During interrogation, he confessed that he actually stole the phone and sold it to another man, Ikenna John. He then took the Police to where John lives and was also arrested for buying a stolen item.
Both Edema and John were found culpable and subsequently charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
They pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for presentation of the facts of the matter so that they will be sentenced accordingly to serve as deterrent.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu, ordered their remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos and adjourned the matter till 21st December, 2022, for facts and sentence.
