Ahead of Ogbunike Progress Union (OPU) general elections scheduled to take place on Saturday, 8th April, 2023, the initiator of Team Make Ogbunike Great (TMOG) and convener of Ogbunike Leadership Summit, Dr. Chuma-Odili Harris Udokamma a.k.a Ogene Ogbunike, has tasked the good people of Ogbunike to embrace peace and shun violence.

He made the call at his country home, Azu Ogbunike, last weekend during a chat with some aspirants. Ogene urged them to go and sensitize the youths on the dangers of violence before, during and after the OPU elections.

He noted that some desperate individuals, who are seeking for one position or the other in OPU government, and those planning to install their choice candidates for selfish reasons, have been fingered and caught misleading some youths, fanning embers of hatred, threatening non-supporters, set to use the youths to manipulate the OPU electoral process, instead of using the youths as agents of positive change in the community.

According to him: “We started this peace campaign at the just concluded Ogbunike Leadership Summit, and we call on our stakeholders to take the lead by standing with us in this campaign for peace in Ogbunike. To all youths, I charge you to shun every call to violence from any aspirants to the OPU leadership. Choose to be an ambassador and an advocate of peace”.

“I’m an advocate and ambassador of peace. Peace is priceless and I’m calling on all aspirants, and every interested persons not to disrupt OPU elections on saturday. Let the best candidate win, let all warring godfathers shelve their selfish ambitions to the throne, and stop killing our dreams for a better Ogbunike”

Ogene Ogbunike, emphasized the need for peace in any environment stating that: “Without peace there cannot be progress and I am appealing to the youths, to keep away from violence. We see the efforts of the Anambra state government led by Prof Chukwuma Soludo at maintaining peace in the state, and I want to use this medium to call on him to do more to empower the youths with more jobs and businesses so as to keep them off the path of criminality”.

“I also charge the leaders of various traditional institutions, Umunna, and religions in Ogbunike to preach peace, and to continue in prayers for peace. I wish ndi Ogbunike a successful town union government elections on saturday”, he stated.
