Heartland Set To Battle Edel FC In Awka

Five-time Champions, Heartland FC of Owerri, are in a killer mood ahead of the battle of Awka this weekend at the Awka City Stadium.

The Imo Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon Emeka Okoronkwo, led a high powered delegation to Dan Anyiam Stadium during the last training session to motivate the team.

Sir Emmanuel Ochiagha, Special Adviser on Heartland affairs, Sir Ferdinand Emeana, Director of Sports, Barrister Ifeanyi Dike, Vice Chairman Imo FA, Hon Ajaelu, former Commissioner, all joined Hon Okoronkwo on the visit.

In his remarks, Hon Okoronkwo appreciated the players for their doggedness, assuring them of the support of the Governor and Government of Imo State. He advised the team to remain focused and disciplined in order to achieve the set goal.

“His Excellency is interested in the team because this team makes Imo people happy and as such the welfare of players is our top priority,  furthermore,the clearance of all our players have been settled.”

The Commissioner challenged the players to reciprocate the gestures of the government by returning Heartland to the top flight.

“This season, we have paid all match bonuses, even the one for Awka is here with us; as I speak, all outstanding salaries have been cleared. Government has done her part. Imo people expect you to reciprocate this gesture” he said.

The Special Adviser on Heartland affairs, Sir Emmanuel Ochiagha, promised that the Government will be appointing a Team Psychologist while rejigging Heartland’s medical department for optimal performance. Sir Ferdinand Emeana, Barrister Ifeanyi Dike and Hon Ajaelu took turns to advice the players to remain professional in the discharge of their duties.

The Honourable Commissioner appreciated the team with the sum of 350 thousand Naira.

Reacting, the Skipper, Nnaemeka Anyanwu, appreciated the Commissioner for taking out time to visit the team. He promised that the team is totally dedicated towards achieving the set goals, which is to return to the top flight.

General Manager, Mr. Promise Nwachukwu, showered encomiums on the Governor and the Honourable Commissioner for their untiring efforts towards returning Heartland to the elite division. He also appreciated the Coach Christian Obi led Technical Crew for their dedication and discipline while urging Imolites to support the team to victory.

Heartland FC will engage Edel FC on Saturday 8th April, 2023, at the Awka City Stadium for her Match Day 4 fixture in the Nigerian National League.
