How Domestic Worker Stole Boss’ Bank Cheque, Forged Signature & Withdrew N2.5m

A domestic worker, Victor Williams, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly stealing his boss’ bank cheque book, forging his signature and withdrawing N2.5m from the account.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Magodo area of Lagos, where his boss, Adekunle Moshood resides.
However, the alleged fraud got exposed after his boss discovered that the money was missing and he went to the bank to report. During investigation, it was discovered that it was the domestic worker, Williams, that withdrew the money.
He was therefore, sacked and handed over to Police operatives from the Lagos State Command.
After thorough interrogation, he was arraigned before the Yaba Magistrates Court for forgery and stealing, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, told the Court that the offence contravened and is punishable under Sections 411 and 287(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
The charge read: “That you, Victor Williams, in February 2023 did unlawfully withdraw N500, 000 from the account of your ex-employer, Adekunle Moshood, in the Magodo area of the state, over the counter and had subsequently transferred N2m into your account without the consent of the original owner of the account and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State”.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Thomas, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P. E. Nwaka, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified.
The matter was adjourned till 9th May, 2023, for mention.
