Nigerian Idol

Nigerian Idol season 8 premiered last weekend with some exciting audition performances that have set a tone for what promises to be another captivating season. Some contestants put in brilliant performances that earned them golden tickets into Theatre Week, while some couldn’t scale the huddle.

The show continues this Sunday with the second episode, as music talents seek to grab a golden life-changing opportunity. Here is why you shouldn’t miss the next episode this Sunday:

Who makes Theatre Week? The first hurdle for contestants is to get into the theatre week where they gain access to hands-on mentorship provided by the judges, vocal coaches, world-class production team, and choreographers. We are in for another captivating episode on the show this weekend, as another set of contestants seek to convince the judges for a ticket into Theatre Week.

Some catchy stories: Besides the music performances you enjoy on the show, there are also contestants who have some emotional stories to tell about their music careers and life. Last week, visually impaired Ben Philips told a touching story of how he went partially blind while in primary school. His love for music led him to audition for Nigerian Idol and now has a golden ticket to the next phase. Also, Cabrini Divo, who was a contestant in the season 7 edition, recalled how he narrowly lost out during Theatre Week due to the poor performance of his duet partner. He said the experience spurred him to try again this season. Expect more touching stories as the audition phase continues this weekend.

Comic performances: While we follow Nigerian Idol to enjoy the musical entertainment and get to see new talents that emerge from the show, we also look out for performances of comedians parading themselves as music talents during the audition weeks. The premiere had such comic talents, and more will most likely follow this week.

The judges: One aspect of the show that thrills the audience is the comments, observations, and verdicts of the judges. The trio of D’banj, Simi and Obi Asika returned as judges for this edition, and they have continued from where they left off last season. Bangalee’s charisma was one of the major highlights of the season 8 premiere, and he sure looks ready to deliver weekly specials throughout the season.
