Hon. Obi Advises Idemili South Residents Against Dumping Refuse In Drainage System

Posted on May 8, 2023
The Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon.(Mrs.) Amaka Obi (Iyom Idemili), has urged residents of Idemili South LGA to desist from dumping refuse in drains to prevent flooding.
She gave the advice after the 2023 seasonal rainfall prediction and annual flood outlook by Nigerian Meteorological Agency(NIMET) and Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency(NIHSA) have predicted that there will be high rainfall across the country and flood this year, which Idemili South in Anambra State was mentioned as one of the Local Government Areas that should expect flooding in this rainy season.
The Council boss appealed to residents of Idemili South to beware of doing many things that will cause flooding such as building on drainage channels, dumping of refuse in drainage channels, pot holes and so on. Government have continued to educate everyday about bagging these refuse very well and dump at appropriate places.
“Don’t dump in drainage channels; don’t drop in rivers; don’t dump in the wrong places; we all will suffer the environmental and medical implications.”
“So let us all do the right thing; put your refuse in appropriate places.
“It is a collective thing. Anambra State Government, ably led by Governor Charles Soludo, is doing its own; the residents too should do their own part; then we all  will enjoy.”
“We’ve been going round communities educating them on the need for everybody to prevent flooding. Not when the floor comes, we start pushing blames.”
“I implore our people not to see drainages as a place to dump refuse because the aftermath effect can be severe” she concluded.
