Fuel Subsidy: NLC, TUC, Charlatans Parading Themselves As Labour Leaders

Posted on June 5, 2023

When I read the jabberwocky of a press statement issued by one charlatan by name Joe Ajaero, who parades himself as President, Nigeria Labour Congress, and I could not but burst into laughter. For a partisan Labour leader, who relishes in unmatched bigotry to release such gobbledygook is not only ridiculous but utterly laughable and risible.
In the said statement, Ajaero had, inter alia, stated;
“The Nigeria Labour Congress decided that if by Wednesday next week that NNPC, a private limited liability company that illegally announced a price regime in the oil sector, refuses to revert itself for negotiations to continue, that the Nigeria Labour Congress and all its affiliates will withdraw their services and commence protests nationwide until this is complied with…”
Does this clown think through his decision to go embarrass himself in the public? Does he also think members of the Union are as ridiculously empty as he is? Who is Ajaero taking for yo-yos or nitwits? Same Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), whose executive members endorsed the candidate of the Labour Party (LP) during the last Presidential election, simply because the LP flagbearer, Mr. Peter Obi is an Igbo man? If one may ask Ajaero, what has changed in what *The Presidency* did on subsidy removal? Did the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, whom Ajaero and his bunch of court-jesters endorsed not promised immediately he wins the presidency?
For the purpose of clarity, Ajaero may possibly have suffered dementia going by the last Presidential poll results, which did not favour his kinsman and anointed candidate, Peter Obi. It is important the statement attributed to Obi during Channels Television’s The People’s Town hall held on Sunday, January 8, 2023, in Abuja is reproduced here for the public to juxtapose with Ajaero’s latest outbursts.
“They have removed it. That’s what they’ve done. But I can assure you, it will go immediately. Subsidy – I’ve said it before – is organised crime and I will not allow it to stay a day longer. What they’re telling you is not what it is. Half of what is being mentioned is not subsidy. First is that we consume the quantity that is not supposed to be consumed here. We are the same population with Pakistan. They consume below 50 percent of what we consume.
“So, the first half, I will remove it and give those people who are drinking it water – because that’s what they’re supposed to drink – so we can save the money.” – Mr. Peter Obi.
If the Labour Party candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, had on January 8, 2023, promised never to allow fuel subsidy stay a day longer if he ever became the president, and the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) headed by same Ajaero would go ahead to endorse Obi’s candidacy as the consensus candidate of the workers’ union, why then is he dilating his tirade like an eunuch when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, few minutes after Oath of Office announced the removal of subsidy? The answer is not far-fetched. Ajaero is simply acting Peter Obi’s script. Obi is still ululating over his colossal loss at the polls even when his court cases have continued to elicit several lampoons from analysts, judges and public commentators over his uncoordinated approach, unsubstantiated claims about the election.
One thing that Ajaero and his array of merry andrews fail to understand is that such claim for strike action is ‘Dead on Arrival’ (DOA)! Are they now claiming ignorance when the 2023 Appropriation Bill assented to by former President Muhammadu Buhari did not make provisions for same beyond June 30, 2023? Why did NLC and his counterpart, Trade Union Congress (TUC) not hit the streets to protest then? It is obvious even to the blind and as well audible to the deaf that the NLC as well as the TUC are both playing politics. Who does not know that this is the voice of Jacob and hands of Esau? But here is the good news. Mr. President has taken a bold step as equally alluded to by the three major contenders during the campaign – Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Peter Obi. They all promised to remove fuel subsidy if ever they won the election. Asiwaju did it!
Let Ajaero, Usifo and their gang of goofballs stop this their jejune and puerile moves. It is not going to work. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is not one man who kowtows the bow-wow of charlatans especially when it has to do with the common good of the hoi polloi – the flotsam and jetsam members of the public. Let them know that their call for strike action is as good as efforts in futility. Asiwaju’s Presidency is poised to re-tool Nigeria and make her work for the benefit of not just a few, but in the overall interest of all and sundry.
