A 29-year old lady, Maryam Ibrahim, has landed in trouble in Lagos State after she allegedly burgled a shop and stole clothes worth N10,000.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Maryam, has been arrested and charged for burglary and stealing.
The incident happened on 18th June, 2023, at Onipeju Street, Agege area of Lagos, where the complainant, Anthony Adesisi, had a shop where he sells women wears.
According to the Police, on the said date, Maryam at about O200hrs, broke into the shop and stole the items and was escaping before she was caught by one of their neighbours, who raised alarm that attracted other neighbours.
The matter was reported to the Police at Isokoko Division. The lady, Maryam, was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over her alleged criminal conduct while the clothes were recovered from her as exhibits.
During interrogation, she was reported to have offered to resolve the matter by paying for the clothes which she reportedly stole. But the complainant insisted that the matter should be charged to Court to serve as deterrent to others who might want to try such in future.
Thus, the lady was charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
However, she pleaded not guilty when she was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Victor Eruada, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence by bringing witnesses before the Court.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Tanimola, granted her bail with sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions
