LASUBEB & AMA Medical Foundation Launch Free Eye Medical Outreach
To ensure adequate well-being of Public Primary School teachers in the State, the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), in collaboration with the AMA foundation, on Tuesday flagged off a 14-day free medical eye screening at St. Agnes Primary School, Maryland Ikeja.
The Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, Dr. Hakeem Shittu, expressed his gratitude to Mr. Governor for his relentless support in ensuring the welfare and well-being of classroom managers and for opening up the space for effective collaboration to enhance the delivery of quality basic education in the state.
He commended the AMA Foundation on the collaborative effort focused on addressing visual health issues, offering eye screening, cataract surgery, medical consultation, free drugs, and mental health awareness to the staff. He urged the teachers to take maximum advantage of the opportunity to examine their eyes.
Shittu added that the medical outreach, which commenced on Monday, 21st August, will run through 7th September 2023, at two centres, namely: St. Agnes Primary School, Maryland and Oshodi Primary School, Oshodi. The exercise is targeted to reach 10,477 teachers.
A Board Member of LASUBEB, Mrs. Sijuade Idowu-Tiamiyu noted that the clear sight of a teacher is critical in delivering lessons to pupils, as well as reading from the tabs provided under the EKOEXCEL programme. “Hence, we have decided to partner with AMA Foundation and the Ministry of Health to ensure that everything they are getting here is of good quality”, she stated.
Director of Administration, AMA Foundation, Mr. Sa’id Bello expressed the organisation’s commitment to supporting the improvement of quality teaching and learning through various interventions.
