Landlady Hires Thugs To Beat Female Tenant Over Quit Notice

A 34-year old landlady, Mrs. Olabisi Oyebola, has landed in trouble after she allegedly hired some thugs to attack her female tenant, Mrs. Oluwabunmi Olunlade, for refusing to pack out after giving her notice to quit her apartment in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Oluyeye Street, Mafoluku area of Oshodi, Lagos, where they reside.
She has been charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for conspiracy and assault.
Trouble was said to have started after the landlady, Mrs. Oyebola, gave the tenant, Mrs. Oluyeye, notice to move out of her apartment, which she occupied as a tenant but she ignored the landlady and did not move out.
Following the tenant’s refusal to move out, the landlady reportedly hired four thugs and inflicted injury on her by hitting her seriously with a cane. In the process, the tenant was said to have bled profusely and when she was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, her pregnancy got terminated.
The matter was reported to the Police at Makinde Division. The landlady was then arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct, which led to the termination of the pregnancy.
During interrogation, the landlady told the Police that she didn’t know the tenant was pregnant and never intended to terminate her pregnancy. But the explanation did not save her.
The Police found her culpable and consequently charged her before the Court for contravening the provisions of Sections 411 and 173 of the criminal code, which attracts several years of imprisonment if she is convicted for the alleged offence.
However, she pleaded not guilty when she was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O Osunsanmi granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 22nd February, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
