Iri Ji 2026: ZLP Senate Candidate Amarube Receives Royal Blessing In Umuchu, Pledges Development For Anambra South

The highlight of the celebration was the presence of Comrade Greg Jideofor Amarube, popularly known as DINO, ZLP Candidate for Anambra South Senatorial District. He was received and blessed by the Traditional Ruler of Umuchu, Igwe G. O Ezechukwu OON KSP JP, Okwuluoha 1 of Umuchu, Nze na Ozo title holders, and other community leaders.

Supporters of DINO also trooped to the Umuchu Township Stadium to present gifts to Igwe Ezechukwu in honour of the festival and in solidarity with the throne. The gesture was received with applause by residents who described it as a show of respect for the institution of the monarchy.

In his goodwill message, Amarube congratulated Igwe Ezechukwu, Nze na Ozo, elders, women, youths, and the entire Umuchu community on the successful celebration.

He described Iri Ji as a celebration of culture, heritage, unity, hard work and gratitude for a bountiful harvest. He noted that the festival provides an opportunity for families to come together, strengthen community bonds and look forward to a more prosperous year.

Amarube prayed for a peaceful, joyful and memorable celebration. He asked that the festival bring renewed hope, abundant blessings, peace, progress and prosperity to every family in Umuchu.

Speaking after the royal blessings, he stressed the need to preserve traditions while also embracing opportunities for meaningful development.

As a proud son of Umuchu, Amarube reaffirmed his commitment to good governance, accountable leadership and community development. He pledged to support initiatives that will improve the lives of the people, create opportunities for youths, strengthen communities and contribute to the sustainable growth of Umuchu and Anambra South.

He said his representation in the Senate will focus on projects that directly impact the people, especially in the areas of youth empowerment, infrastructure, education and healthcare.

Community leaders at the event commended Amarube for identifying with the people and supporting the preservation of Igbo culture. They urged political leaders to continue to promote unity and development.

Amarube called on Umuchu people to remain united, peaceful and respectful of one another for the advancement of the community.

He concluded with prayers for abundance, prosperity and continued growth for Umuchu, Anambra South and Anambra State.

The Iri Ji Umuchu Festival remains one of the major cultural events in Aguata LGA, drawing indigenes from across Nigeria and the diaspora to celebrate yam as a symbol of life and sustenance in Igbo culture.
