Pregnant Woman Arrested For Burgling Shop At Night & Carting Away N8.4m Property

A 38-year old pregnant woman, Abiola Rofiat, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly breaking into a shop at night, carting away items and cash worth over N8.4m belonging to Mrs. Oke Temitope and escaped.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 20th November, 2023, at AIT Road, Blue Banana Bus Stop, Alagbado area of Lagos.
The suspect, Rofiat was later arrested alongside her accomplices, Ahmed Odewunmi and Daniel Sulaimon. And they were consequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
According to the Police, the suspects broke the shop in question and carted away gallons of groundnut oil worth N8m and cash of N470,000 and escaped that fateful night.
When the owner of the shop, Mrs. Oke Temitope, went to the shop in the morning and discovered what happened, she went to the Police Division at Alagbado and reported what happened.
Hence, the Police moved into action, arrested Rofiat and detained her at the station for interrogation over the alleged crime. And during interrogation, she implicated the two other accomplices.
They were found culpable, consequently charged before the Court for the alleged offences and they pleaded not guilty before the Court.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offences.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 1st February, 2024, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
The defendants risk several years of imprisonment if they are tried and found guilty before the Court for the alleged offences.
