How Thieves Vandalized N30m Armoured Cables For Street Lights

Police operatives have arrested two suspects, Abass  Bolaji, 20 and Elisha John, 22, for allegedly conspiring and vandalizing N30m worth armoured cables which supplied electricity to street lights at Obalande and Lakulaku under bridges in Lagos State. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects threw the areas into darkness since 24th January, 2024, after they vandalized the cables and sold to already buyers, which included a woman, Mistura Balogun, 27, Isha Quadri and Mohammed Kabir, who paid undisclosed amount for the items.

 

The five suspects were later arrested and charged before the Court for conspiracy, vandalizing, stealing and buying stolen items belonging to Lagos State Electricity Regulation Commission as represented by Engineer Jinadu Babatunde.

They were arraigned before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

However, they pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned.

 

The prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, granted them bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
