A staff of Ikeja Electric company,  Makinde Segun, will not forget 15th February, 2024, in a hurry as he received the beating of a lifetime when he went to disconnect wires from an electric pole over accumulated bills owed by the residents in Lagos State.
.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that some of the angry residents descended on the victim, Segun, beat him mercilessly and injured him in the process.
The incident happened at Prince Akinabioye Street, Elemu Bus Stop, Bucknor area of Ejigbo, Lagos.
The residents were said to be angry that they do not have regular power supply but the electricity distribution company was bringing outrageous bills and yet the staff had the effrontery to come and disconnect their wires from the pole.
Thus, they held the staff, Segun, seized his two phones and the ladder, which he used to climb the pole before he was forced to come down, beaten mercilessly and sent away.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ejigbo Division and one of the suspects,  Treasure Chukwuka, 39, was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over their conduct.
During interrogation, he was asked to mention some of the people that attacked the complainant but he declined and as well insisted that he was not part of the people that assaulted the complainant.
However, after investigation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for conspiracy, stealing and assault.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate,  Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted him bail in the sum of N20000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
