Company’s Sales Rep Sent To Prison For Diverting N7m Goods

A 30-year old sales representatives of Clarion Medical Limited, Nestor Chiazokam, has been arrested and charged for allegedly diverting and stealing the company’s goods valued at N7m goods in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Afolabi Lesi Street, Ilupeju area of Lagos, where the company is located.
According to the Police, the suspect had between 2019 and 2023 obtained the products under the false pretence of selling it for the company, was trusted and given the products.
However, he was alleged to have sold the products, converted the money to his personal use and did not remit it to the company’s account.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ilupeju Division. Thus, the suspect was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable having admitted to have sold the product and did not remit the money to the company.
Consequently, he was charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for alleged obtaining under false pretence and stealing, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 26th March, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
