ECN Will Drive Energy Economy In Commercial Quantity – Says Dr. Abdullåhi
At the ongoing week-long Expo Summit 2024 of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation holding at Eagle’s Square pavilion, Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Chief Uche Nnaji has promised total support for the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) to engage in more research work that will help drive the country’s economy for sustainable growth and development.
The Minister made the assertion during his tour of the various stands at the Expo Summit as it entered its day 3 on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. The overtly elated supervising Minister was taken round some of the stands mounted by the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), one of the 17 agencies under his ministry.
While taking the Minister round the stands, the ECN Boss further reiterated the commitment of the Commission under his leadership, as the lead agency for energy policy in the country, to rewrite the Nigerian story on energy pursuits. The Energy expert vowed to push the Commission to its rightful place in the scheme of things in the country. For him, an agency created over 30 years ago with not so much to show for it does not fit into the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. That, however, he said had begun in earnest to change in the collective interest of all citizenry.
Dr. Abdullåhi during the tour of the stands showed the Minister, among others, Nigeria-manufactured Solar PV System that is more efficient and more durable in use than imported solar PV systems. The solar PV system which was produced from start-to-finish in Nigeria, and by two of the institutes under the Energy Commission – Nsukka, Enugu State and Sokoto in Sokoto State is capable of supplying power to household electrical and electronic items such as fans, radio and TV sets, water heaters among others.
Also showcased to the Minister was the Lagos stand where a machine produced by the Commission’s institute in Lagos called Smart Energy Meter saver was on display. The machine was produced to conserve energy, regulate same, and even prepare for further distribution into various household usage.
Other products inspected by the Minister include hydro-power plant machine that produces water, generates power, yet conserves energy and above all, environment-friendly, solar-powered streetlights, as well as solar-powered drilling machine produced by the Commission’s institute in Bauchi which conforms with the Commission’s mandate on sustainable green energy.
For the Commission, the resolve is to support Mr. President on all fronts. The forex migraine is one thing the country cannot continue to sustain. There is a country calling on everyone to rescue her. Everyone has a collective task to ensure the economy is kept stronger by domesticating machines that can be sourced locally to keep the Naira stronger against the dollar. The Director-General is equally focused on helping Mr. President reduce the volatility in forex to keep the country’s economy, better and stronger.
On his part, the Honorable Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Chief Uche Nnaji commended the leadership of the Energy Commission on what the Commission has been able to achieve so far. He would, without mincing words, make further commitment to support the Commission’s drive towards mass-producing the many products showcased in this year’s summit. “A 10,000 threshold every year will help the Commission save the environment and equally generate more revenue for the country. Part of our mandate from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is to commercialise the research work of the Ministry. We will support the Energy Commission on all fronts to bring this to reality.” the Minister said.
In the days ahead, the Commission’s initiatives, in the opinion of the Director-General, are what would ultimately secure the country’s economy. With having a viable and sustainable eco-friendly energy wherewithal on one hand, and a safer environment devoid of carbon emissions, on the other hand, the Renewed Hope agenda of Mr. President would come to fruition.
