A popular human rights activist, Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, had a nasty experience in Lagos State while trying to assist a hire purchase vehicle driver,  Ebuka Eze, to offset N240,000 in order to own the vehicle but Eze reportedly swindled Iche in the process.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that instead of Eze to use the money to offset the hire purchase transaction, he reportedly spent the money on other less important things and was not able to pay the money to become the owner of the vehicle in question.
The incident happened at Fatai Aileru Street, Ijegun area of Lagos, where Comrade Iche’s office is located.
His actions angered Comrade Iche after he later discovered that Eze did not use the money for the hire purchase transaction. He then asked Eze to refund his money since he did not use it to offset the hire purchase transaction. But he said he had no money to pay him back.
The matter was reported to the Police at Isheri Oshun Division. Eze was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct, which he admitted to.
According to the Police, the suspect,  Eze met Comrade Iche and asked for assistance to enable him to offset the vehicle hire purchase debt and be able to own the vehicle.
Comrade Saviour Iche was said to have shown compassion and gave him the money to pay the owner of the vehicle so that the vehicle will become his own. However, after collecting the money, he did not use the money to pay the remaining balance for the vehicle before the information leaked.
The Police, after interrogation found him culpable over his conduct and charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence under the Criminal law of the State which attracts several years of imprisonment.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K.Dosumu-Uthman, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment and addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 8th May, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
