Successful ‘School Project’ Empowerment Program At New Era Foundation Camp In Lagos

 The Asisat Oshoala Academy held a successful inaugural session of the ‘School Project,’ in partnership with global sportswear giants, Nike; and the New Era Foundation of Her Excellency, the First Lady, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu CON, on 25 April 2024 at the New Era Foundation Youth Camp, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos.

 The event featured over 400 girls from different schools across Lagos, who participated in sports and athletics, as well as critical life skills and leadership sessions covering personal hygiene, CPR, and first aid training, among others.

The ‘School Project’ aimed to empower girls through a combination of sports, leadership, and life skills education. Participants engaged in various sporting activities, including football, volleyball, basketball, and table tennis, promoting physical fitness and teamwork.

The highlight of the event was the second Asisat Oshoala Inter-School Debate Competition, which featured girls from Iwerokun Community Senior High School, Iwerokun Community Junior High School, Ibeju Senior High School, and Elemoro Community Junior High School.

The competition was pulsating and exhilarating, with Iwerokun Community Senior High School emerging as the winners.

The girls dazzled the audience with their eloquence and passion, talking about how giving girls access to sports education contributes positively to national development.

Excited with the success of the event, Asisat Oshoala MON, founder of the Asisat Oshoala Foundation/Academy, in a goodwill message from her based in the United States, thanked Her Excellency, the First Lady of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu CON, for graciously allowing the academy to use the New Era Foundation Youth Camp for the program. She praised the First Lady for her vision in providing excellent facilities for child development in Lagos and Nigeria as a whole.

Representatives of the Lagos State Sports Commission commended the participants for the weight of their arguments and hailed the organizers, including the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Asisat Oshoala Academy, partnering with Nike, for encouraging sports education for girls.

The Asisat Oshoala Foundation/Academy is committed to empowering girls through education and sports. Founded by Nigerian football star Asisat Oshoala MON, the foundation seeks to provide opportunities for young girls to excel academically, athletically, and personally. Through various initiatives and partnerships, the foundation aims to create a positive impact on the lives of girls in Nigeria and beyond.
